"Education technology company Astrid Education has announced a new content partnership with the WaterBear Network, the first interactive streaming platform dedicated to the future of our planet. The collaboration will see WaterBear feature its high-quality content to young learners around the world on Astrid’s unique AI-powered and voice-based English learning platform. "
To launch the partnership, select titles from WaterBear’s original library of premium content will be made available on Astrid immediately. Young learners will be able to learn how to speak English fluently and with confidence while engaging with WaterBear’s stories from around the world, featuring subjects such as climate, wildlife and heartwarming personal stories from all walks of life. WaterBear was founded by Ellen Windemuth, the executive producer of BAFTA and Oscar-winning film My Octopus Teacher.
“At WaterBear our goal is to take our members on a journey, using great storytelling to inspire action,” said Sam Sutaria, Head of Strategy at WaterBear. “Education is currently undergoing unprecedented disruption around the world and through this partnership, we hope to mobilise and inspire young learners to engage with award-winning content and create impact around the world.”
WaterBear, aptly named after one of the most resilient creatures in the world, is available on any device and showcases award-winning documentaries, inspirational original content as well as live streaming, all designed to facilitate awareness, education and action.
Launched at the end of last year, the WaterBear Network has already attracted an impressive roster of high-profile supporters — including Prince Harry, model and activist Lily Cole and Game of Thrones actor Maisie Williams — as well as more than 90 charities and NGOs around the world including WWF and Greenpeace.
Astrid utilizes award-winning artificial intelligence and speech recognition combined with meaningful stories to build engaging products for children and teens that actively listen, evaluate, and support pronunciation and fluency practice in real-time.
“The alignment of Waterbear’s philosophy, and Astrid’s mission of providing high-quality education for children and young adults around the world, is a perfect combination. We share a belief that storytelling is the perfect tool to deliver deep, sustainable learning. Together we not only offer life-changing skills, such as speaking English but deliver the message that matters most for the future of our planet“, said Joe Flory, Astrid’s Head of Content.
