Mongolia partners with Astrid to boost opportunities for the country’s young population

The country of Mongolia has teamed up with Swedish technology company Astrid to introduce new forms of AI-powered learning, designed to empower young learners with life-changing English speaking skills in one of the largest countries in Asia.

Astrid (www.astrideducation.com), building next generation language learning and assessment solutions, has jointly announced Project Boost with the Ministry of Education and Science in Mongolia (en.meds.gov.mn) and its local partner Gurun Academy (www.gurunacademy.edu.mn). This initiative will assess and upskill the spoken English communication skills of the youth in Mongolia while uniquely strengthening the education sector in the country with state of the art technology.

The project was jointly developed to provide Astrid’s AI-powered app to every single young learner and English teacher in Mongolia. The project is aligned with Mongolia’s Vision 2050 and its aim to position itself as a leading Asian country in terms of its social development, economic growth and its citizens’ quality of life. The project has received strong support from local partner companies, including Golomt Bank, Invescore Capital and TESO Group, now supporting the project’s ambitious plans for more than 400,000 kids aged between 12 and 18. This would likely set up a great example of public and private partnerships beyond the country and inspire other nations.

“The Mongolian Government issued a resolution in 2022 to improve the English level of the public, and the General Authority for Education is progressing the process within its given responsibility. In this regard, we see this Astrid and Gurun project as a significant opportunity to acknowledge and analyze how AI-based technology can support further improvement.” says Nyam-Ochir Tumurochir, Head of the General Authority for Education or executive agency of the Ministry of Education and Science in Mongolia.

The project is designed to revolutionize the way children in Mongolia learn how to communicate in the digital age by providing a powerful supplement to the country’s English language curriculum. The aim of the project is to strengthen the spoken English skills of the country’s youth in order to support skills acquisition that can drive employability and boost Mongolia’s competitiveness in the global economy. Astrid’s voice-based app will be available to all Mongolian schools and their students, and will be rolled out in phases over the next year.

“Astrid is all about improving people’s lives by leveling up how they communicate in an increasingly connected world. Mongolia is not only a country with a rich history and culture, but the vast majority of the population is under the age of 30, which in itself holds a tremendous potential for the future. We’re incredibly proud to support Mongolia’s Vision 2050 and further strengthen the country’s potential by helping every single child in Mongolia improve their English communication skills. It’s clear that the Mongolian government remains committed to boosting the future of its young population, and Astrid and our partner Gurun Guru are tremendously excited to play a part in scaling that impact.”, says John Kristensen, Co-founder and COO of Astrid.

“As a Mongolian company, we’re honored and excited to support our country’s Vision 2050. We were thrilled to partner with a leader in innovation like Astrid. Their focus on combining world class academics with technology to drive learning outcomes and impact at scale is well-aligned with our own strategy and mission. Our world class collaboration will break the mold of a traditional classroom with a multitude of transformative educational online experiences in far remote areas of Mongolia where only technological advances can make a difference”, adds B.Davaasuren, CEO and Founder of Gurun Academy.
